FULL PARTICULARS
This beautiful property would make a perfect luxury home or B&B type of business with an income from the olives. It is half an hour from the market town of Loja. The cities of Granada (with airport) and Antequera are each an hour away. Malaga and the Costa del Sol are 90 minutes away.Seville and Cordoba 2 hours away.

A traditional style mountain cortijo, part renovated and part new build, to a very high standard with an 8x4m swimming pool.

This is a rural property standing in 19 acres of agricultural land planted with 350 productive olive trees, figs and almonds. There is also a young fruit orchard and vegetable beds.

The cortijo has 3 phase mains electricity with surge protection, mains water supply and a bore hole with storage tank. Some of the olive trees, ornamental trees, flower and fruit beds and orchard are irrigated from the bore. There is a septic tank for waste water. Oil Fired underfloor central heating is supplemented by solar panels which heat the domestic water. There is double glazing throughout the property and discreet white roller shutters on every window and the patio doors. This property also benefits from both telephone and broadband internet connection.

The 8x4 swimming pool with water heater and cover has terraces all around and magnificent mountain views.Underneath the pool terraces are a workshop with large store cupboards and a toilet. A log store and a further store currently used for olive nets etc. All have electric lighting. There is a garage, a tractor shed (with small tractor and trailer) and another store shed all with lights and electricity. Plus an open car port. Attached to the house is the old Bakehouse (including an oven which apparently could still be used).

There are many activities in the area such as walking, biking, riding, ski-ing - plus the traditional Moorish cities and villages. The land to the property is on a gentle slope and would be very suitable for keeping horses (riding stables?) goats, sheep, chickens etc. The area is famous for it's honey and there are certainly many bees in the flower gardens and orchard.

It is a very tranquil area, secluded and private yet with several British couples as distant neighbours. Perhaps it would make a beautiful retreat/yoga/cookery/art/birdwatching holiday house? Rural Tourism is being encouraged and there are grants available to promote and encourage tourist accommodation.

Photo 2: From courtyard to pool with mountains beyond. Raised flower beds are on timed irrigation and a path between leads to the pool. The L shaped shade area with arches has a ceiling fan and the wicker furniture is left out all year. It is an outside room not just a summer courtyard.

Photo 3: The Dining Terrace has a shaded marble dining table which seats up to 10 people. An electric fan and lights make this a beautiful place to dine day or night. Adjoining the Dining Terrace is a shaded tiled chess base with a tiled bench. Covering the shade are Kiwi Fruit and Grape vines.

Photo 4: The Winter Room (5.88m x 3.96m) has a traditional high beamed ceiling and large open fire behind folding glass doors. There are patio doors leading onto the courtyard and two windows overlook the mountains.

Photo 5: The Summer Room (7.84m x 2.77m) also opens onto the courtyard through patio doors. It has a beamed ceiling and a fan fitted.

The 4th downstairs bedroom (4.87m x 3.48m) is currently used as a Study. It has large folding doors to screen the computer workstation, a beamed ceiling and is fitted with a ceiling fan.

Photo 6: The Kitchen (3.78m x 3.78m) is fitted with a large range of wooden cream coloured units. It has work surfaces on all 4 sides of the room and includes a tall larder unit, gas and electric double oven range cooker with hood and double sinks. The ceiling is beamed and there is a ceiling fan fitted. The window opens onto the garden with olive trees beyond.

The Dining Room(4.3m x 2.67m) has a beamed ceiling, wall lights, two windows - one facing the courtyard and one facing the dining terrace. This is one of the original rooms in the house.

Utility Room (4.1m x 2.67m) was originally the stable. It has a high beamed ceiling and large store cupboards. This room houses the central heating bioler and hot water cylinder, discreetly hidden in cupboards. There is a sink and plumbing for the washing machine. At the window there is insect screening.

The Boot Room (3.78m x 2.53m) currently used as an entrance room with large built in cupboards for coats, shoes and storage. An original room from the old house with a beamed ceiling.

There are two stairways. The old one between the Boot Room and the Dining Room leading to Bedroom 3 (4.32m x 2.76m) and the shower room (3.94m x 2.57m). Both are in the old part of the house with traditional high pitched ceilings, the bedroom has a fan and insect screening at the window. The shower room has large built in linen cupboard.

The second stairway is in the hall between the kitchen and Summer Room. The hall has two external doors, one to the front of the house and the other into the courtyard. Also off the hall is the downstairs shower room (2.95m x 1.95m). This is brightly tiled and has a toilet, basin and large tiled walk in shower.

Photo 7: Bedroom 1 (5m x 4.9m) a beautiful large bright room with two windows and high pitched beamed ceiling. There are huge built-in-wardrobes, insect screening and ceiling fan. The bathroom (3.48m x 2.7m) has a beamed high ceiling, two electric towel heaters, insect screening at the window, a large walk in tiled shower, bath, basin, toilet and bidet.

Bedroom 2 (3.79m x 3.73m) has the traditional high beamed pitched ceiling with fan and insect screening at the window. The en-suite shower room (3m x 2m) has a large walk in tiled shower, basin and toilet.

Outside we have planted nearly 200 additonal trees on the land - fruiting, ornamental and native. There are almonds, figs, pomegranates, peaches, nectarines, peaches, greengages, apricots, oranges, lemons, grapefruits (the lime has not yet fruited), apples, pears, walnuts, chestnuts (not fruiting), blackberries, raspberries, gooseberries, blackcurrants & redcurrants but my rhubarb has died. There is also a preserved threshing circle.

The Olives are harvested between January and March. John and I harvest them together, just the two of us. There is currently an EU grant each year and the income from the olives (taken to the local co-operative in Loja) is several thousand euros annualy depending on the harvest and price of oil during the year. Apart from harvesting the trees need to be pruned alternate years and during the year sprayed for insects and with a foliar feed plus spraying in circles underneath the trees to keep them weed free for the nets. Each spraying several times a year takes between two and three days depending on wether its ground or tree spray. John normally shares the spraying with English neighbours and they borrow our tractor in exchange. We knew nothing about olives when we arrived but they are easy to manage and look after.
